Announcing “Empty Nest”, a solo show of kinetic sculptures and more by Edmond van der Bijl, opening March 13th at The Affinity Lab:

Empty Nest:
It takes 41 days to create an empty nest. Though in reality this is not the case, having the specific timeframe of 41 days was one of the challenges faced while creating “Empty Nest”, a solo show of kinetic sculptures and more by Edmond van der Bijl opening on March 13th 2009 at The Affinity Lab in Washington DC’s historic Adams Morgan.
“Empty Nest” focuses on a series of suspended kinetic sculptures that are handmade from plastic cable ties and replicate organic forms found in nature. The use of plastic ties contradicts nature and yet imitates the basic building blocks of life-cells-which are used in repetition and in different configurations to create a larger whole. The resulting structures are visually accessible graphic pieces that exist within a functioning workspace.

The show opens Friday, March 13th 2009 at The Affinity Lab in Adams Morgan (DC). 6-9PM
